Get Down To The Rhythms Of Dominica

Discover Dominica

World music fans can experience the 18th celebration of creole music this year in Dominica between 24 – 26 October.

The Caribbean island of Dominica is a melting pot for all types of music including calypso, reggae, soca, konpa, zouk and rock and roll. Music is an important part of traditional culture and in the late 1980s the Domincian music coined the term Bouyon (Boo-Yon) to describe the music movement on the island and unify Dominica's music artists. The three-night event is an opportunity for tourists to experience all the different influences and artists who are popular in Dominica today.

The line-up for the Friday night includes Siccaturie Alcock, aka Jah Cure, who is one of the world's best current reggae artists, T-Vice - a Haitian Compas music band founded by two brothers and their two friends in 1991 and Soukous All Stars - a collection of highly regarded African guitarists including Lokassa Ya Bongo, Ballou Canta, Dally Kimoko and Yondo Sister.

On Saturday highlights include the Flavour Band - a group of seven high-energy performers heralding from Miami, Kerwin Dubois - a well-respected calypso and soca musician from Trinidad and Tabago and the Midnight Groovers - a beacon of heritage for the Dominican music scene; having founded in early Seventies.

Sunday's line-up includes Latin sensation Elvis Crespo who was previously a member of Grupo Mania and Tabou Combo - a Haitian group founded in 1967 who perform a fusion of merengue, rara, soukous and funk with Brazilian influences.

With pulsating rhythms each night at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium tickets cost £27 ($45 USD) per night or £73 for a season ticket which would include access to all three nights. Visit www.wcmfdominica.dm to purchase tickets and for further information
