Get Cosy in the Cotswolds This Winter at The George Inn

The George Inn

New warming menus, cheese and wine tasting evenings and wreathmaking workshops make this country pub with rooms the perfect seasonal stay

November 2022…/ If spending a cosy weekend in the Cotswolds is on your winter wish list then a trip to The George Inn is just the place for it. Just eight miles south of Banbury (less than an hour by train from London Marylebone) this dog-friendly country pub with rooms offers comfy beds and roll top baths, hearty food, flavourful wines and a great local community spirit.

New A La Carte and lunch menus from Head Chef Valerio Grimaldi-Plant include warming winter dishes such as the Local Venison Haunch with Fondant Celeriac, Piccolo Parsnip, Pickled Carrot, and a Red Wine Jus, as well as Duck Breast with Fresh Blackberry, Garden Beet and Potato Terrine. Vegetarian and seafood options include Wild Mushroom Soup with Black Pepper, Whipped Butter with Sourdough and Langoustine Raviolo with Seafood Buerre Blanc, Concasse Tomato and Sea Herbs. The extensive dessert menu has everything to indulge in from Tiramisu, to Toffee Apple Terrine and Treacle Tart. The new winter garden menu includes pub classics, like the daily changing The George Pie served with mashed potato and seasonal greens, as well as traditional Fish & Hand Cut Chips and Pork Schnitzel with garlic and caper butter.

Throughout November and December, The George Inn team will host various events designed for couples, friends and families to enjoy together, from a cheese and wine tasting evening on 3rd November, where diners will be able to purchase festive hampers with their preferred produce tried on the evening, to wreathmaking workshops on 3rd and 10th December hosted by Sweetpeas, The George Inn's local florist.

On 17th November, Chef Val and his team will pull out all the stops and celebrate the cuisine of the magnificent Jura mountains of Eastern France. Although famously underrated compared to the Alps and Pyrenees, Jura is French food lovers' paradise. The five-course tasting menu called Les Collines des Rêves, which translates to 'The Hills of Dreams', will include Jura classics such as Gougere (Comte filled Choux Bun) and Poulet Fricassee (Creamy Chicken Stew). Priced at £65pp and includes wine pairings with each course.

Prices start from £110 staying on a B&B basis.
