The number of UK tourists visiting Geneva last year rose 2.9%, January to December 2016 in comparison to the same period in 2015, official figures showed this week.
Tourism, both business and leisure, is an important economic driver for Geneva and these figures demonstrate the popularity of Geneva with the UK Market. Growth has outperformed expectation for 2016, even in spite of the fall of the GBP. Number of tourists from the UK accounts for the biggest visiting market out of all European inbound visitors to the city, illustrating the strength of the UK market. Leisure visitors in particular have increased, in part due Geneva Tourism's fantastic offers and packages, allowing visitors to experience all that the city has to offer.
The success in tourism can be specifically attributed to the expanding calendar of exciting activities - including the International Motor Show, Geneva Marathon and SIHH watch festival – as well as popularity of museum's and exhibitions such as the Mamco and Musée international de la Réforme. In addition, it is due to an increase in visitors opting for ski stop-off destination as well as the city winning Europe's Leading City Break Destination in the World Travel Awards for 2015 and 2016.
