Indonesia's official airline, Garuda Indonesia, is set to join a host of other Indonesian organisations in a transformed Trafalgar Square on 31 May. For just one day Trafalgar Square will be filled with the sights, sounds and flavours of the country as part of the 'Hello Indonesia' event, supported by the Mayor of London.

The free event, in London's most famous public space, runs from 10am to 6pm on Saturday 31 May. Throughout the day visitors will be treated to a showcase of some of Indonesia's finest entertainment including Balinese dancers, music from a Javanese Gamelan group and Angklung and Sasando players. There will also be the opportunity to learn how to draw batik as well as purchase traditional Indonesian handcraft and jewellery.  On the food front there will be a range of dishes being prepared by one of the archipelago's most famous culinary figures, chef Vindex Tengker, and his sous chef Sudarius Tjahja.

Garuda Indonesia will have a dedicated stand at the event for visitors wanting to learn about Indonesia's award winning national airline. The Garuda Indonesia team will be on hand to talk about the airline's new London Gatwick to Jakarta service (via Amsterdam) launching on 8 September 2014, as well as the benefits to passengers of the airline's recent entry into the global airline alliance SkyTeam.

At the heart of Garuda Indonesia's service offering is the 'Garuda Indonesia Experience'. Based on the five senses – sight, sound, scent, taste and touch – passengers will be immersed in all that Indonesia has to offer on board a fleet of state of the art Boeing 777-300ER aircraft that will service the London to Jakarta route. Through the unique Indonesian fabrics and ornaments used for the interior of the aircraft, the exotic aroma of Indonesian flowers, sounds of Indonesian folk music and the tantalising tastes of Indonesian food and beverages served on board, passengers will start to experience Indonesia even before take-off.
