The Global sensation PSY, who shot to fame thanks to his hit song 'Gangnam Style', is galloping to the aid of the Korean tourism industry by featuring in a series of TV commercials on behalf of the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).
KTO recently announced that it is going to launch a series of ads titled 'PSY's Wiki Korea'. The commercials were inspired by Wikipedia, the world's famous online encyclopedia. PSY presents some key cultural attractions such as Samgyeopsal (Korean pork belly barbecue), Jeju Olle Walking Trail and the cosmetic street at Myeongdong shopping area, to name but a few. The ads weave the core concepts of Korean culture 'Gi (energy)', 'Heung (joy)' and 'Jeong (affection and love)' into all aspects of this unique series of promotional ads.
The commercials, along with the print advertisement versions, will be simultaneously launched in May via major international media. Research has indicated that KTO's adverts have influenced travellers desire to visit the country, especially last year's 'Touch Korea' commercial which was chosen as a finalist for 'The Laurels Viewer's Choice' presented by MediaCorp, the biggest media source in Singapore.
KTO's Tourism Brand & Product Department Executive Director Jeon Hyo Sik said "PSY's fans are all over the world regardless of age or region. Hopefully, our promotional videos will attract worldwide attention". The PSY brand, phenomenon and legacy continues to inspire a new generation of travellers to Korea.
