Fire fighters at Robin Hood Airport are celebrating a year long, red-hot fundraising mission which has seen the team raise thousands for charity over the past year.

The group of 15 airport fire fighters bared all for a charity calendar earlier this year and proved they were fighting fit when they organised and took part in a 10k run, raising a grand total of almost �9,000 through both fantastic fundraisers.

Team members posed with fire training appliances for the popular calendars which were sold in local shops and the airport, and stumped up over �8,000 for Bluebell Wood Children�s Hospice and the Make a Wish Foundation, which helps children with life limiting terminal illnesses.

The �Three Counties 10k� saw 130 runners circle the airports grounds, raising �1300 for Help the Aged and the British Heart Foundation, with the winners scooping a range of top prizes including a trial aeroplane lesson, to encourage people to keep fit and look after their hearts.

Tony Lonsdale, Chief Fire officer said: �Every year we try to fundraise for charity in some way, to get us out and about in the community and to give something back to worthy causes.

�We couldn�t do what we do without the airport and 2009 has been a great year for us. We have thoroughly enjoyed raising more than we ever thought we could for four fantastic charities and would like to thank everyone involved.�
