FROM REAL LIFE MARIO KART TO INDIA ON THREE WHEELS: LARGE MINORITY RECOMMENDS TOP MOTORISED ADVENTURES.
Group trips on four, three and two wheels in Japan, India and Romania
From Day Trips to Long Odysseys
No Experience Necessary - Only A Driving Licence and Passport Required
28 May 2019: Adventure travel is more accessible and fun than ever. Banish the image of a lone explorer battling the wilderness; just one super fit person, nerves of steel and their North Face jackets. There are a number of companies shifting gears in the adventure travel world with semi-escorted motorised tours that everyone can enjoy, from the blue rinse set down to less-than-enthusiastic teens. Here Large Minority founder Julian Carnall suggests his favourite whimsical adventures on four, three and two wheels.
Whether making a day of it through the busy streets of Tokyo, taking ten days to traverse the blissed out beaches of Kerala, or overtaking horse drawn carts in Romania on tiny motorbikes, a semi guided tour on wheels is one of the best ways to get off the beaten track, while having a whale of a time.
Take on Japan Mario Kart-style IRL
Experience the real life version of one of the world's most enduring video games. Dress up in one of the costumes of the game's favourite characters and hit the streets of Tokyo. Escorted by an experienced guide, drivers are led past popular tourist sights like the Tokyo Dome, famed Buddhist temple Asakusa and the Tokyo Sky Tree. There are no pesky koopa shells or banana peels to avoid on the extremely safe route, so drivers may relax and blast their choice of music from the game for delighted onlookers. From £72 per person from MariCar.
Master 3 Wheels on the India Rickshaw Challenge
What better way to access the incredible layered landscapes, glistening backwaters and wildlife rich protected reserves of Kerala than in the country's signature three-wheeled transport? And learning to drive is part of the fun. Whether participating in the second ever India Rickshaw Challenge with up to forty other adventurers (20-29 September 2019) or booking a bespoke version of the route on another suitable date, the granddaddy of motorised group adventure Large Minority has got it covered. All challengers have to do is turn up, turn off the phone, get down and dirty each day while enjoying some of the best food and accommodation the region has to offer. From £1,367 per person with 10% to charity (flights not included).
Two Wheeled Japes on the Romanian Monkey Run
Like Large Minority's India Rickshaw Challenge, the latest 'Monkey Run' from The Adventurists is still in its infancy so you can be sure of some organisational hilarity along the way. It's all part of the fun as you navigate the Romanian roads and landscape on a tiny motorbike that should really only be ridden by children. Participants get a start line, a finish line and some training. The rest is up to fate. The next Romanian Monkey Run is 14th-21st September 2019. From £1,295 per person (flights not included).
