At a time when the 'staycation' market is particulary buoyant due to fears of Brexit consequences and volatile exchange rates, the young and dynamic company is finding that its users are looking for something UK-based where there is stability, but also something experiential and out of the ordinary. Co-Founder Alex Wilson explains how this rise in popularity came about:
"Most people have watched Grand Designs and Amazing Spaces on television and it's true that us Brits have a pretty strong fixation on property, a fascination that has spilled over to the holiday accommodation market. What we are finding is that people are becoming increasingly intrigued by these types of properties and want to stay in them, perhaps those that have a distinctive history or heritage but have been modernised for people to comfortably enjoy and feel like they're stepping into a very different world from their own."
New additions to the website include several uniquely converted properties from Rural Retreats, each with their own contrasting qualities. Sally Port Cottage at St Anthony's Lighthouse is an iconic property thanks to it featuring in the popular children's 80s TV programme Fraggle Rock - currently trending due to the announcement that CBO will bring this programme back to a new breed of audience. The Old School is exactly that, a charming stone and tile cottage that was once a village school. There is also a quaint, listed 18th Century Toll House and a 17th Century thatch cottage Higher Lodge, once the gatehouse to a historic estate. This exciting list is set to grow further as Host Unusual unearth even more gems for their followers to have their interest piqued over the coming months.
