Ever wanted to spend a winter’s night glamping in the heart of Swedish Lapland? How about learning how to photograph the Northern Lights on a four-night ‘ Great Aurora Hunt’? Maybe a romantic getaway in a luxury boutique hotel overlooking the breathtaking Lyngen Alps is more appealing? Sweden – ‘Aurora Safari Camp And Sami Adventure’– From £1,975pp – The Aurora Safari Camp is the perfect wilderness setting from which to spot the Northern Lights and enjoy a night glamping in Arctic Sweden. Guests spend one night at this luxury camp in in a traditional stove fire-heated Sami lavvu with a proper bed and mattress. Food is organic and local and meals are served with high quality wine or beer. After a night spent in the wilderness, guests move onto the beautiful Sörbyn Lodge, whose restaurant has a reputation for being one of the region’s finest. Here they can take part in a full day Sami adventure including a snowmobile expedition along the frozen Råne River to Flakaberg where they will mee a Sami family. After hearing about their way of life and seeing their reindeer guests will be served a typical Sami lunch in a wooden tee-pee around an open fire. A number of optional excursions are also available including a moose safari, snow shoe walk, cross country skiing, ice fishing and husky sledding. Prices for the four-night trip start at £1,995pp and include flights from London Heathrow to Luleå via Stockholm, transfers, the Sami Adventure, one night at the Aurora Safari Camp in a lavvu and three nights at Sörbyn Lodge. Based on two sharing. Departs daily from 1 October 2013 to 31 March 2014. The final night at Sörbyn can also be changed for a night in the unique and fascinating Treehotel in nearby Harads.
Norway – ‘The Great Aurora Hunt’– From £1,575pp – Perfect for budding photographers keen to not only see, but also capture the phenomenal Northern Lights on camera, this four-night break in Norway’s Lofoten Islands is led by veteran aurora photographer, Andy Keen. Expert tuition is offered by day while evenings are spent dedicated to hunting and photographing the aurora. While the main focus of the tour is on the Northern Lights, it also offers excellent tips and opportunities for taking pictures by day. Highlights include three photography workshops instructing how to take pictures of the Northern Lights, land and seascapes and moving wildlife. In addition there is a full day tour exploring and photographing the Lofoten archipelago and a sea eagle and nature safari by boat. Prices start from £1,575pp and include four night’s accommodation in an authentic fisherman’s rorbu, breakfast and dinner, all photography workshops and excursions. Based on two sharing. Departs on selected Mondays from 30 September until 17 March, including a special New Year departure on 30 December. The package can also be booked with flights from London Heathrow via Oslo from £1,995pp. No previous photography experience is necessary and the tour is also suitable for those who don’t wish to take pictures but want to hunt for the lights and enjoy the scenery.
Norway ‘Lyngen Lodge and the Lyngen Alps’ - From £1,468pp – This luxury four-night break at Norway’s stunning Lyngen Lodge is perfect for a romantic getaway. Situated in secluded woodland overlooking the beautiful snow-capped Lyngen Alps and crystal clear waters of the Lyngenfjord, the lodge provides boutique accommodation with top quality cuisine, catering for just 18 guests. Complete with cosy robes and slippers, a sauna and outdoor hot tub, there are few better places to relax with loved ones. A large number of optional excursions are also available including snowshoeing, dog sledding, a sea safari, where you may get the chance to spot dolphins, ice fishing and cross-country skiing. Prices start at £1,468pp and include flights from London Heathrow to Tromso via Oslo, transfers, car hire with unlimited mileage, three nights at Lyngen Lodge on a full board basis and one night at the Rica Ishavshotell in Tromsø with breakfast.
