On November 19, Wanuskewin Heritage Park will be announcing a significant archeological find that will add the next milestone to an unfolding epic story regarding Indigenous history in the area.
For more than 6,000 years, Wanuskewin was a gathering place for Indigenous Peoples of the North American Plains. Now home to Canada's longest-running archaeological dig, researchers have unearthed more than 200,000 artefacts on the site since the 1980s, with many predating the ruins of Rome and the pyramids of Egypt. The recent discovery has been made with the assistance of the bison who were reintroduced to the region in December 2019.
Media are invited to hear about the archeological find, view a special display that has been created showing aspects of the actual find, and to connect with those involved on the significance and what lies ahead in the ongoing work by the park.
