As the number of wineries in Gillespie County has grown, ancillary businesses such as wine tour companies continue to expand. Visitors can find a dozen wine tour and wine shuttle companies in Fredericksburg. Local wine tour companies offer half-day, full-day and custom wine tour options, while the Wine Road 290 shuttle offers weekend shuttle service to and from Fredericksburg area wineries.
The number of wineries, tasting rooms and wine tour companies isn't the only thing growing in Fredericksburg- so is the list of accolades praising the burgeoning wine region. Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country was dubbed the “New Napa” by Huffington Post Canada in July 2015 and was also named one of “10 Best Wine Travel Destinations in 2014” by Wine Enthusiast Magazine in Spring 2014.
According to a 2012/2013 research study funded by the Fredericksburg Convention and Visitor Bureau, thirty-two percent of the visitors to Fredericksburg noted “touring wineries” as one of the top reasons to visit the Fredericksburg area, up from only eleven percent of visitors in 2000.
According to the Texas Office of the Governor, Economic Development and Tourism, direct visitor spending in Gillespie County topped $95 million in 2015. And where wine lovers flock, so go other savvy Texas wine producers.
