Broadcasting legend and national treasure Sir Terry Wogan has joined FRANCE Magazine as a columnist starting from the October issue.
Sir Terry, who owns a holiday home in Gascony, west of Toulouse, has long been a Francophile and will be writing about what he loves about rural France.
In his first article, he describes what he really thinks about the area… and his fellow visitors:
• On the night sky: “With the lack of ambient light in this corner of south-west France, the Milky Way stands out like a cloud in the inky sky.”
• On eating a three-course meal with wine at the local snail festival: “The cost? Twenty quid a head. I know, take it up with the IMF. Last time it must have been curtains for at least 20,000 snails.”
• On camping: “How anyone can travel in a caravan will always be a puzzle to somebody like me, who has never been in a tent – never mind a caravan – in his life.”
His first column will be published in the October issue, which has had a complete redesign and is out on 3 September 2014. The new-look issue includes brand new columns and features, showcasing the very best of French travel and culture.
Articles include: Great weekend city breaks; 25 boutique hotels for less than £150 a night; Christmas markets; a guide to the most beautiful village in France; and how to buy wine direct from the vineyard.
