Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour Embarks on a $200 Million Redevelopment Project Creating a New Convention Destination in the Heart of the City

Marriott International | Greater China

Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour, together with owner M&L Hospitality, has embarked on a $200 million redevelopment plan, spearheading the revitalisation of Darling Harbour as Australia's leading meeting destination.

The project will see the hotel expand with an additional third tower, adding 222 new guestrooms to its current portfolio, bringing the total number of rooms to 905, plus expansive convention and exhibition space.

The new, 4,800sqm of convention, meeting and event space will feature floor to ceiling glass to maximise natural light and uninterrupted water views of Darling Harbour. The first-rate facilities will include two pillarless ballrooms, the largest with seating up to 1,100 theatre-style, breakout and meeting rooms, dedicated pre-function space and state-of-the-art audio visual technology. Bar Eleven, Four Points by Sheraton Sydney's open rooftop bar, with breathtaking views over the harbour, will continue to operate and provide guests with an alternative outdoor venue for special occasions, meetings and events.

Scheduled for completion by May 2016 for the convention space and August 2016 for the new tower, the new look hotel will also include a contemporary lobby area, offering new bar and restaurant concepts and design elements with sandstone accents, in keeping with the property's heritage and the Four Points by Sheraton brand.

Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour's General Manager, David Fraser says, “We're thrilled to be embarking on the next phase of the hotel's momentous transformation and looking forward to unveiling what will be a first-class hotel, offering guests a truly unique experience at the heart of Sydney.”

David added: “The additional convention space will also help address the reduction of event facilities in the CBD area during the remake of Sydney's Convention and Exhibition Centre, ensuring Sydney remains number one for large scale events in the Asia-Pacific region.”

This new development phase follows the unveiling of a $30 million renovation, completed in 2013, which included the refurbishment of guestrooms, introducing a new Premium Room category, enhancements to the Corn Exchange Restaurant and Grand Ballroom, and the introduction of four new Heritage Meeting Rooms, providing meeting planners with contemporary, warehouse-style spaces in the city centre.

Ideally located on Sussex Street overlooking the vibrant Darling Harbour precinct, Four Points by Sheraton, Sydney, Darling Harbour, is Australia's largest hotel offering a current total of 683 rooms, including 17 suites, along with simple comforts and exceptional experiences at a great price in the heart of Sydney.
