For an Epic Adventure Take Part in the Great Australian Outback Cattle Drive, Spring 2005

South Australian Tourism Commission

From April 30-June 11, 2005, visitors to South Australia will be able to experience an adventure opportunity unlike any other. The Great Australian Outback Cattle Drive is an epic journey involving 600 head of cattle, 120 horses, some of Australias most famous and experienced cattle drovers and a roaring good time.

Now exclusively available through www.australia.com/americanexpress and American Express Travel locations, the Drive is the ultimate way to see the Outback and is perfect for that travel enthusiast whos always wanted to learn about the regions history and culture.

Thousands of cattle were herded down the Birdsville Track in South Australia during the legendary cattle drives of old. The first historic reenactment was held in 2002 and the event to be held in 2005 promises to be even bigger and better.

The drive itself is broken down into four stages, each showcasing distinctly different Australian terrain. Eight tours are available as four, five and six-day packages. Visitors are welcome to join the Drive for more than one and can even experience the whole six-weeks should they be so inclined. Each rider will have his own horse and all equipment and meals will be provided. Visitors will overnight in a luxury-tented village with excellent facilities, bar service and hearty, traditional Australian fare, including some campfire cooking. An onsite library filled with books on Australian Outback history will provide ample reading material for inquiring minds.

Tours will be limited to approximately 70 people per leg. There will be one staff member per two guests. In addition to driving the cattle other social activities will include 4WD tours, Aboriginal cultural experiences and more. The Drive caters to all levels of experience. Horse tailors will divide people into groups and match people to horses that suit their experience level. Previous horse riding experience isnt necessary. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets, stories of Aboriginal culture and life on an Outback station and much more will give visitors memories to last a lifetime.

Package costs start at $1700 per person (including Twin Share accommodation, transfers from Adelaide, meals and horseback riding) and can be booked through an American Express Travel Service location with an American Express card.* American Express Cardmembers also receive Double Membership Rewards Points and up to $150 statement credit on qualifying vacations.** Travel counselors are also available to customize a dream vacation Down Under and combine the Drive with special travel packages on www.australia.com/americanexpress.
