Argentine capital makes its mark as autumn's top food destination
With a raft of new restaurants openings, quirky food tours and artisan food festivals, Buenos Aires is reinventing its already revered food scene.
This September, the Argentine capital's culinary trailblazers will celebrate what's great about its ever-evolving cuisine, with a series of events, food tours and new restaurants.
Starting on 8th September with the week-long Semana de la Gastronomía Porteña, restaurants throughout Buenos Aires' will offer special menus of their best dishes at bargain prices. With lunch and dinner options, it's a way to try authentic Porteño cuisine and sample the flavours of its new culinary stars while sightseeing in neighbourhoods' across town.
Then on 14th September, for a BBQ like none other and as Argentine as it gets, the Mercado de Hacienda in the bustling neighbourhood of Mataderos will be lined with hundreds of barbeques or asados, as chefs compete at the Campeonato Federal del Asado BBQ competition.
More street-focused treats are to be tasted at the Apetito Festival Gourmet (September 8-9; October 6-7 and November 9-10): where the city's finest food trucks and pop-ups will gather at the historic Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo horseracing track to offer a variety of creative, fast, informal, delicious cuisine.
