Wills and Kate enjoyed many a romantic evening in the hotel bar at Fairmont St Andrews during their university courtship – and with the five-star resort's Valentine's Day offers, couples can add a touch of royal romance to their own relationship.
While studying at the University of St Andrews, the popular royal couple, who are expecting their second child in April, regularly met up for a fruit cocktail in the hotel after the prince had used the hotel gymnasium, of which he was a member.
Graeme Dawson, now the resort's leisure sales and marketing manager, was working behind the bar at the time the famous students were regular visitors.
He recalled: “Prince William was a member of the spa and we often saw him using the gym or just relaxing in the atrium. I too studied at St Andrews, before working here, and we'd even talk about our studies as we both read geography.
“They visited together too and he would order non-alcoholic fruit cocktails — I think he was trying to keep healthy. I did feel under a bit of pressure to make the perfect cocktail though – and the same drink is still available here today for anybody.”
And the stunning cliff-top resort's special Valentine 's Day promotions – available only on February 14, 2015 – allow loving couples to experience the same luxury as part of their own 'regal romance'.
The 'Recipe for Romance' package costs from £164.50pp and includes overnight accommodation, with full Scottish breakfast, a three-course Valentine's meal in the Italian La Cucina restaurant, and full access to the Signature Spa, where the prince was often seen relaxing.
The 'Food of Love' deal offers the same package, but with a three-course romantic Valentine's meal in the Atrium's Squire Restaurant, and costs from £174.50pp. Suite upgrades are available at a cost of just £80 per room.
The multi-award-winning Fairmont St Andrews, the luxury resort at the Home of Golf, sits in a majestic cliff-top location overlooking the North Sea and the historic 'Auld Grey Toon'.
Voted IAGTO's European Golf Resort of the Year in 2012 and winner of the award for 'best large hotel' in the 2014 Scottish Golf Tourism Awards, the resort boasts two championship golf courses – The Torrance and The Kittocks – and has played host to a number of prestigious events, including both the Open Championship's final local qualifying and the Scottish Senior Open, which it has hosted for the past six years.
In addition to golf events and royal romances, Fairmont St Andrews has also hosted some of the world's most important politicians and powerbrokers as a venue for both Northern Ireland peace talks and a G20 Summit.
In addition to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the resort has also welcomed the likes of Kofi Anan, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, and a multitude of celebrities and sports stars.
As well as exceptional golf and a world-class spa, Fairmont St Andrews includes award-winning dining, luxurious guest accommodation and exceptional service, as well as unfettered access to the charms of the old town of St Andrews itself, the unique Home of Golf.
