Miami � Miami-Dade Parks welcomes a major golf development where residents and visitors can enjoy fun in the sun. A $5.7-million clubhouse at Crandon Park Golf Course is scheduled to open in December. The 20,576 square foot facility will house a lobby and visitors� reception area, restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining and a lounge. Port St. Lucie � Legendary golf course architect Pete Dye is supervising a modification project to the unique layout that bears his name, The Dye Course, at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie. The ultimate goal is to make the course one of America�s most playable for the general public and more challenging for the professional. The landing areas near the greens are the primary focus. The modification project will add 15 to 20 more yards of playing surface. The expanded landing areas on 14 of the 18 holes will be completed by Oct. 15. Other improvements include an enlarged practice putting green, landscaping near the No. 1 tee and grading the fairway to the left of the 10th hole. The par-72 Dye Course features five sets of tees, from the 5,015-yard �forward� tees to the 7,150-yard �medal� tees. It was selected as �The Best New Course in Florida� in 2000. St. Petersburg/Clearwater � The PGA Tour, the world�s premier golf tour, returns to the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area this fall with the first staging of the Chrysler Championship Oct. 27 through Nov. 2, on the fabled Copperhead Course at the Westin Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor. St. Petersburg � In October, the Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club will complete renovations of its golf course greens. The resort is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a member of the Historic Hotels of America.
