Be inspired by beautiful innovation during the month long Floriade spring festival in Australia's capital, Canberra.
From 14 September to 13 October, more than one million blooms take centre stage as Floriade joins in Canberra's year long 100th birthday celebrations with a showcase of innovation. Each week has a theme: smart living, future style, invention and contemporary cultures.
The spring festival keeps visitors entertained with live performances, cooking shows, gardening activities, tips from Australian experts and celebrities from fashion and design, to gardening and DIY workshops.
Floriade is the largest floral festival of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and the cool ground conditions during winter are perfect for the production of spectacular tulips and other spring flowering bulbs.
Floriade was recognised as one of Australia's leading events earlier this year when it won silver in the Major Events and Festivals category at the 2012 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.
This free event is now in its 26th year and is held annually from mid-September to mid-October on four hectares of Commonwealth Park in the city centre bordering Lake Burley Griffin.
This year's event features some of the Australian capital's popular national attractions depicted in the garden bed designs. Also returning is the popular Floriade NightFest, the enchanting ticketed night-time event featuring illuminated flower beds and entertainment, from Wednesday 25 to Sunday 29 September.
