Floriade, Australia's biggest celebration of spring, will celebrate its 34th year with a dazzling display as the festival returns to its traditional home of Commonwealth Park from Saturday 11 September to Sunday 10 October.
As the temperature continues to drop, Floriade's gardeners have spring in their sights as they plant one million blooms at Commonwealth Park in Canberra this month.
This year's theme for the event is The Future of Flowers, which visitors will see reflected in the flowerbed designs and a range of entertainment throughout the month-long festival.
“The Future of Flowers opens the gates to a stunning display of flowers celebrating the beauty and wonder of mother nature and arrival of spring. Our 30-day program aims to spark conversation around sustainability and climate change, and will showcase horticultural design and practices, and creative landscaping.” said Floriade Executive Producer Vickii Cotter.
The jam-packed program will be announced in the coming months and will see Commonwealth Park come alive again with music, cultural celebrations, food and wine, horticulture workshops, artistic displays, markets, entertainment, and recreational activities this spring. Floriade is a free event attracting almost half a million attendees each year.
Last year Canberra saw the city burst with colour as community groups planted bulbs and annuals to create a tulip trail through the ACT's suburbs, after the COVID-19 pandemic saw the cancellation of Floriade in Commonwealth Park. Such was the success of Floriade Community that it will return this year with 300,000 bulbs and annuals available for schools, community groups and organisations to plant in their local area.
Beyond the gates of Floriade, Canberra is brimming with must-see-and-do experiences this spring. With a stellar food and wine scene, a multitude of museums and galleries and endless natural attractions just waiting to be explored.
Floriade NightFest will also return for four nights from Thursday 30 September to Sunday 3 October, with live entertainment to be announced in the coming months.
While free to attend, due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendees may need to book pre-registered tickets. Visit floriadeaustralia.com for more information.
