Fiona Jeffery, OBE, Founder & Chairman of Just a Drop was presented with a World Tourism Award on Monday at the ExCeL Centre in London, in a ceremony at World Travel Market.
The Awards, which are co-sponsored by Corinthia Hotels, Delta Air Lines, The New York Times Global and Reed Travel Exhibitions, were established to recognize 'the extraordinary initiatives by individual, companies, organizations, destinations, and attractions for outstanding accomplishments in the travel industry.'
Fiona received an award in recognition for 'her philanthropic vision in launching an international travel industry charity, that in just 15 years, has provided life sustaining clean water and brighter futures for an estimated 1.5 million children and their families in 31 countries worldwide.'
Two other distinguished 2013 Honourees were recognized and they were: The Born Free Foundation for its commitment to conservation and Skål International, in recognition of 'its leadership in encouraging responsible tourism practices in the travel and tourism industry through its Sustainable Tourism Award program; as well as being a role model of supporting local communities following natural disasters.'
Presenting the Awards on behalf of the sponsors were Fiona Harris, Director of International PR, Corinthia Hotels; Nadia Clinton, Sales Manager, UK, Delta Air Lines; Patrick M. Falconer, Managing Director - UK, Northern Europe, Middle East and Africa, The New York Times Global; and Craig Moyes, Portfolio Director, Leisure Travel Portfolio, Reed Travel Exhibitions.
On receiving her award, Fiona said, "My sincere thanks for such an honour but I'm dedicating this award to all the incredible people who've made Just a Drop possible over the years. Just a Drop was born out of my simple idea and desire to encourage the travel and tourism industry to give back to those destinations and communities with whom we all operate. Its genuinely a collaborative of so many people from this amazing industry of ours and together we help to truly improve and transform the lives with the simple gift of safe water, man's most basic human need and surely right."
