An artist who worked on Disney's latest cinematic film release 'Into The Woods' is helping to bring Newquay's spectacular new Pirate's Quest attraction to life with a series of swashbuckling murals and displays.
Greg Winter, 40, is using images of the town's 18th century harbour, known as Towan Blystra, to create stunning scenery for the interactive visitor experience.
He is also building a new entrance area, based on the wreck of the Royal Anne galley which features hidden doorways and other surprises and recreating the deck of The 'Neptune' – resident pirate Calico Jack's infamous ship.
For Greg, a graduate of Bournemouth Arts Institute, the murals and other features are an opportunity to create some lasting artworks.
“I've worked as a scenic artist for a lot of the major films including Into The Woods, Batman Begins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and two of the James Bond movies as well as high profile TV series including Game of Thrones.
“It's fantastic to be involved in such high profile projects, but they're not designed to last beyond the end of the filming so it's also very rewarding to get involved with this type of work which will hopefully be around for many years to come and be enjoyed by thousands of visitors to the town.
“With the harbour scene I've tried to remain as true as possible to historic images but have also added my own touches to blend the mural in with the other displays to create a fun and immersive world for Calico Jack and his crewmates to inhabit,” he added.
Opening for previews on February 14th, Pirate's Quest is a unique, fun, family experience in the heart of Newquay which combines talented theatrical actors, amazing special effects and detailed 360⁰ sets in an authentic, fully immersive, walk-through experience.
The hour-long adventure will allow pirate fans and their crew mates the chance to feel, hear, smell, and see Cornwall's intriguing legends and exciting history… brought thrillingly to life!
