FESTIVE COLOURFUL DECEMBER IN MARIBOR

 

Eventful like never before! Maribor, 3 - 31 December 2013

 

This year's festive month of December in Maribor will be extremely eventful, lively and colourful - like never before: a spectacular Christmas fair, numerous outdoor concerts and events in squares, streets and courtyards; plenty of fun leading to the big finale - the great New Year's celebration in the festively colourful city of Maribor.  

 

This 3rd of December, by switching on the holiday lights, which will engulf the city centre like a fairy-tale bundle of lights, Maribor will once again let the true festive spirit in. It has never been as lively as this year! Throughout December and all day long the city squares and streets will invite you to have a look at more than thirty festive stands offering unique products. The biggest Slovenian square, Leon Štukelj square, will host a series of concerts by skilled musicians from various genres. But particular fun is expected in the Vetrinjski Vilinski dvor mansion, and, to top it all off, the city will be adorned with many magical events at fairy-tale squares, streets and courtyards, and much, much more. There are as many as 28 outdoor concerts scheduled to take place.

 

Events taking place as part of the festive colourful December for party-goers of all ages will happen throughout the month, leading all the way to the big finale - the traditional New Year's celebration at the Leon Štukelj square. This celebration in Maribor is a unique experience in the old city centre, in the biggest Slovenian square. Every year well-known Slovenian singers and music groups provide excellent entertainment for several thousand people at the very popular New Year's Eve party, and it won't be any different this year. In addition, the New Year's celebration in Maribor is an open-air public New Year's celebration with the longest tradition in all of Slovenia.

 

Among Slovenians and tourists, Maribor has long been renowned for hospitable, open-hearted, relaxed and joyful people. Maribor citizens invite visitors to join them in the colourful and festive fairy-tale city of Maribor to indulge in merry celebrations and to visit a colourful bunch of festive events.

 

Ski addition

 

No sooner will the Festive Colourful December scatter snow across Maribor than the ski season in Maribor Pohorje will begin. The city ski centre of Maribor, which is also the biggest ski resort in Slovenia, offers numerous possibilities: winter activities, wellness, adrenaline, cuisine and also the nearby city beat of Maribor (only a 10-minute drive by car or city bus). The ski resort with 41 km of trails and 22 devices is family-friendly and also appropriate for more skilled skiers, who can test their abilities on the longest lit ski trail in Europe. On 1 and 2 February 2014 Maribor Pohorje will be feeling particularly festive with the arrival of the 50th jubilee Golden Fox trophy, the women's Alpine skiing world cup competition. The reputation the competition has had around the globe can largely be contributed to by the numerous spectators that attend the event every year thanks to the great atmosphere they create below Pohorje.
