Airport Parking & Hotels (APH) has created a guide comparing the wackiest and liveliest upcoming events around the world for festival enthusiasts looking for events with an edge. The research can be found within the Know Before You Go section of the APH website at http://www.aph.com/worldwidefestivals. All 10 events offer quirky activities and entertainment. Dia de los Muertos (the celebration of the dead) in Mexico hold cemetery tours and theatrical performances. During the La Pourcailhade event (festival of the pig) in France there is a pork sausage-eating contest, piglet races and a best pig noises competition. Italy's Highline Meeting offers attendees the chance to experience high lining on Mote Piana and a chance to enjoy live music and a knodel night party.

The types of festivals featured focus on a wide range of activities from beer drinking at Oktoberfest in Germany, to a sporting event at Wales' World Bog Snorkelling Championships, watching monkeys enjoy a giant feast at Thailand's Lopburi Monkey Banquet, to a massive tomato food fight at La Tomatina in Spain.
Six out of the 10 festivals researched charge for entry. Admission fees range from £2 at the Full Moon Party in Thailand to £80 for a package ticket to Spain's La Tomatina event from La Manga. Two of the events that charge entry fees also include options for free admission. Finland's Air Guitar World Championships has free entry for the Dark Horses' Qualifying Round and World Final and charge £52 for the World Final VIP tickets. Whereas the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta offers free admission for children aged 12 and under and charges a general admission fee of £7.50.
Three of the festivals researched only take place on one date, including the World Bog Snorkelling Championships that falls on 28 August 2016 and the Lopburi Monkey Banquet in Thailand that takes place on 27 November 2016. Seven of the events celebrations run for multiple days, including The Highline Meeting in Italy from 2-8 September, Germany's Oktoberfest on 17 September – 3 October and Dia de los Muertos in Mexico on 1-2 November.
The Krampusnacht event in Germany is to be held in November this year, but a date/s is yet to be confirmed.
