The Camino de Santiago, one of the most famous walking trails in the world, is an unforgettable adventure; perfect for families looking for a special holiday together.

More than just a religious or spiritual pilgrimage, the Camino is a very unique cultural experience. Followed by pilgrims from all over the globe for centuries, the many Camino routes today attract people from all walks of life: single travellers, friends, couples and families.

Whether celebrating an important anniversary, taking the children on a big adventure or planning a once in a lifetime family reunion… walking the Camino as a family will be a memorable trip.

Looking for ideas to take your family on the Camino? We have selected a few suggestions:

Camino family reunion:

Walk the last 100km of the Portuguese Way Camino Portugues from the town of Tui, on the border between Galicia and Portugal, to Santiago de Compostela. The Portuguese Way is the second most popular Camino route and takes walkers through peaceful woodland, farmland and hamlets as well as fantastic historic towns and cities. You will also reach the coast with views of Vigo Bay and Pontevedra Bay before continuing on your way to Santiago de Compostela.

Price from €746pps for 7 nights. For more information: Camino Portugues from Tui.

Camino with teenagers:

Irish journalist Peter Murtagh and his daughter Natasha walked the Camino Francés French Waytogether when she was 18. The 'father and daughter' team then co-wrote the book 'Buen Camino!' together, about their Camino adventure. Teenagers will be up for a Camino challenge and they'll enjoy the social aspect of the Camino Francés.

You can walk the full French Way route from St Jean Pied de Port (35 nights) or start your Camino closer to Santiago, for instance you can walk from the city of Ponferrada to Santiago in 11 days.

Price from €982pps for 10 nights. For more information: Camino Frances.

A Camino adventure with children:

If you are travelling with younger children, you may wish to walk a shorter section such as our short break from Porto in Portugal; or cycle any of our Camino routes for a week. Covering an average of 14 to 20kms per day by bike, this will be a fun adventure for the younger 'pilgrims'.
