CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - KENNEDY SPACE CENTER – The exploration of space is mankind's greatest adventure and achievement. We have put men on the moon, sent robot scouts to the edges of our solar system and in the future, humans will travel again beyond our home planet. And now, families can explore the final frontier together for a true taste of space flight experience at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex's Family Astronaut Training Experience® (ATX®).
Family ATX offers a half-day program for adults and children ages 7 through 13 years to reach for the stars in an out-of-this-world bonding experience. Designed to spark the imagination of children who may someday be future astronauts, scientists, engineers and explorers, the program promotes an interactive family experience.
Family members will be immersed in astronaut training, riding astronaut training simulators, building and launching their own rockets, and meeting a real NASA astronaut. The experience culminates as participants train and work together to perform a space shuttle mission to the International Space Station in a full scale orbiter mock-up and fully outfitted mission control.
Families of all types and sizes may walk in the footsteps of the first man in space and discover where mankind launched to the moon. Family ATX offers a realistic look at what astronauts and mission control achieve together every time NASA launches a mission, and a fun way to discover what families can achieve when they work and play together. Family ATX includes custom gear (t-shirt and hat), a class photograph with an astronaut and a graduation ceremony for successfully completing the program. Cost is $145 plus tax per participant.
Due to the program's highly interactive nature, ATX crews are small and advance reservations are required. Some height and weight restrictions apply on certain simulators. For additional information on ATX, call 877-313-2610 or visit www.kennedyspacecenter.com/family-atx.aspx
