The Athenaeum Hotel & Apartment's famed Whisky Bar is set to launch its very own meticulously crafted whisky blend, adding a personal dram to the 300 plus malts already available.

“That'll be an Athenaeum please” will soon be the most popular order.

The Athenaeum is an 8-Year Old blend of Speyside and Highland malts designed to appeal to the Whisky Bar clients' particular taste. “We have whisky aficionados from all the world visiting our bar on a regular basis,” commented Whisky Sommelier Ivo Silva “and we've got a pretty good fix on what they like. The blend is representative of the Hotel really - warm, welcoming and with surprising characteristics.”

The Hotel recruited The Great Whisky Company to help refine The Athenaeum.

The Company sent six mini flasks for bar staff to taste based on the flavour profiles the hotel desired to convey -something discreet and personal but also lavish and quirky that perfectly reflected the nature of the privately owned five star property.

The final result is a blend of predominantly Speyside malts with Highland malt added to give a little spice.  The whiskies were matured in sherry and bourbon casks to add a little bit of smoke.” It is a honeyed and soft blend with some spicy notes of oak with a lovely vanilla finish,” commented Amanda Ludlow of The Great Whisky Company. “We are really proud of The Athenaeum 8-Year Old.”

Production of The Athenaeum means that not only will the exclusive blend be on offer in the main bar area but hotel guests will also sample the new blend in miniature form from the comfort of their own free mini bar. the Athenaeum Hotel and Apartments
