Fairbanks Is a Dog Mushing Mecca

Explore Fairbanks, Alaska

Fairbanks is a dog mushing mecca. With over 10 different kennels offering visitors sled dog rides and tours, a brand new dog mushing museum, the 70 year old Open North American Sprint races, and the epic Yukon Quest 1,000 mile International Sled Dog race there are plenty of dog mushing activities and events to engage travelers to the Interior. This year the Yukon Quest starts on the frozen Chena River that winds its way through Fairbanks and the number of mushers signed up and the interest in the race is going strong.

Representing mushing past and present, the new Bouchard's International Dog Mushing museum has over 1,000 items, including a wide variety of sleds and other mushing artifacts and educational materials. Open year around the museum in downtown Fairbanks has a 5,000 square foot exhibit space and is owned and operated by Alaskan dog musher Kyia Bouchard.
