Specialist tour operator My America Holiday has revealed an increase in the popularity of holidays that allow you to hit the open road and explore more of the United States.

Fly Drives in particular have become a more popular choice of holiday, gaining ground against traditional city breaks and beach holidays. Top routes include the world famous Route 66 and the Grand Circle through Utah's jaw-dropping National Parks.

Ruth Charlton, My America Holiday's Marketing Manager said, “Our fly drive bookings are up an incredible 80% year on year. We are seeing customers catching the America Bug after a single centre trip with us and returning to book a fly drive so that they can visit several destinations in one holiday.”

A 10 day 'Canyons of the West' fly drive holiday costs from £985 per person including flights, car hire and hotel accommodation. The itinerary starts in Las Vegas and takes in National Parks including Bryce Canyon, Mesa Verde and the Grand Canyon.

An 8 night 'Southwest Explorer' itinerary costs from £1,290 per person including flights, car hire and accommodation. This covers four of the most popular destinations in this corner of the States, LA, San Diego, Las Vegas and San Francisco.

Other popular adventures include 'Florida and the Keys'. A 12 night trip taking in Orlando, Palm Beach, Miami and Key West costs from £1,375 per person.

'The Best of New England' holiday is another firm favourite, including New England highlights like Boston, Bar Harbor, the White Mountains, Stowe, the Berkshires, Newport and Cape Cod. This 11 night trip costs from £1,185 per person.

Those wanting a more spontaneous adventure would do well to choose a motorhome holiday which allows you to travel and stop at your leisure. Bookings for such trips are up 60% to date, compared to the same time last year.
