Experience 'The Sound of Orpheus' in the Most Exquisite Tropical Setting

Orpheus

Orpheus and the Australian Festival of Chamber Music are thrilled to present The Sound of Orpheus from 3-6 October 2014, a bespoke event that combines one of the world's finest string quartets in the most exquisite tropical setting.

Over an extended weekend in October, the prestigious Goldner String Quartet will take up residence on Orpheus, a secluded island hideaway set in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, to present a series of three twilight recitals to an intimate group of just 24 fortunate guests.

As the resident quartet for over 20 years at the award-winning Australian Festival of Chamber Music, the Goldner String Quartet made its debut at the Wigmore Hall in London in 1997 and has since received unanimous audience and critical acclaim, boasting performances across the UK, Europe, the US and Asia Pacific.

Its founding members, Dene Olding (Violin), Dimity Hall (Violin), Irina Morozova (Viola) and Julian Smiles (Cello) have all held principal positions in Australia's most reputable companies, including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Chamber Orchestra and regularly perform at leading music festivals around Australia.

“This is a truly unique event for anyone interested in the finest things as it combines arguably Australia's best musicians in their field with one of the country's most luxurious island resorts, quintessential Queensland weather and superb food” says Sue Hackett, General Manager of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music.

Orpheus' immaculate turquoise coastline spans across 11 kilometres and comprises 1,368 hectares of pristine National Park and surrounding World Heritage-listed Marine Park. In addition to its natural surrounds, the island has established a name for itself in the culinary world. Resident Head Chef Arie Prabowo (ex-The Botanical, Victoria), trained under Cheong Liew, offers guests a daily-changing menu that celebrates local and in-season produce through fusion cuisine.

The idyllic setting also promises an array of experiences, with diving, snorkelling, fishing and sunset cruises all on offer, along with indigenous-inspired treatments promoting wellness and balance at the Gwandalan Day Spa meaning 'rest and peace' in the Aboriginal language.

Join Orpheus, the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and the renowned Goldner String Quartet for a truly bespoke getaway, set against golden sands, turquoise waters and serene sunsets.

Event pricing from $6,300 per couple.
