Experience the 'Great Tradition' Tour Through India With Author & Historian, John Keay

Pettitts

Tunbridge Wells travel company, Pettitts, have created a unique, small group tour focused on discovering some of India's best kept secrets, in the company of one of its outstanding authorities, John Keay.  India can potentially take a lifetime to explore; no single tour can possibly embrace the country's inexhaustible variety – we become resigned to judging the whole of India on the basis of particular bits. However, India is more than the sum of its parts and underlying them all is what has become known as 'The Great Tradition'. The tour is 15 days in total and departs on 8th March 2017.

In exploring this concept, the tour takes the cultural high road up through the Indian heartland of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Retracing in reverse the ancient dakshinapatha (the great central 'highway to the south') it tracks the Great Tradition from Hindu to Buddhist to Muslim and Secular - or, in dynastic terms, from Maurya to Gupta to Mughal, Maratha and Rajput. The tour explores Indian culture, combining air, road and rail travel, to end in a truly 'imperial' climax in the heart of Delhi.

Highlights of the tour include witnessing some of the finest examples of Indian paintings in Buddhist rock-cut caves, a dousing with coloured water at the Hindu spring festival in Ahilya Fort, the world heritage site of Sanchi and a visit at sunrise to, arguably, the greatest monument of all, the Taj Mahal. All these experiences take place under the expert advice and guidance of John Keay, to ensure that the tour will leave lasting memories.

Steven Pettitt, Founder and Managing Director of Pettitts says:

“John Keay is a great friend of ours and his knowledge and passion of India is second to none. This small group tour is perfect for anyone who wishes to immerse themselves in the Indian culture and come away inspired, and with a better understanding of the country. There is also the invaluable opportunity to ask questions and find out more from John, who has written over 10 books on India.

Here at Pettitts, we believe in creating memories for our clients, and this tour promises to do just that.”

The tour cost is from £4670 per person which includes international flights, internal flights, hotel accommodation, all meals, as well as sightseeing and entrance fees.
