WITH the infinitely long days and Midnight Sun visible above the Arctic Circle, what better time to experience the entire length of Norway's spectacular coastline than this summer? Scandinavia specialists Taber Holidays have introduced a brand new tour travelling by Hurtigruten as far as Tromsø, and continuing by plane to Longyearbyen, the world's most northerly town on the remote Svalbard archipelago.
This incredible ten-day journey begins in the beautiful city of Bergen, often referred to as the gateway to the fjords. Travelling the entire coastline, guests will enjoy the ever-changing scenery and have the opportunity to experience both marine and wildlife in their natural environment.
During the voyage the ship will dock at some of Norway's most picturesque towns and villages where guests can disembark and explore life by the coast. Highlights include the wonderful Art Nouveau city of Ålesund, mediaeval city of Trondheim with its spectacular Nidaros Cathedral and the famously narrow Trollfjord surrounded by breathtakingly steep mountains.
After four nights aboard Hurtigruten, guests will spend a night in the vibrant arctic city of Tromsø. The largest in Northern Norway, it offers a fantastic contrast of old and new, with wooden architecture at home alongside a striking modern arctic cathedral. Well worth a visit is the Polar Museum providing a fabulous insight of polar exploration. Visitors can also enjoy a bustling centre packed with shops, cafes and bars.
The journey continues north the following day, when guests board a plane to Longyearbyen for their final three nights. Located half-way between Norway and the North Pole, this really is the last point of civilisation. Included is a sightseeing safari by boat across the Isfjord where guests can view some of Spitsbergen's famed landscape – extraordinary wildlife and glaciers. Polar foxes, walrus, seabirds and of course, the mighty polar bear all live here.
Prices for the ten-day coastal exploration start from £1,930pp. This includes flights from London to Bergen, Tromsø to Longyearbyen and returning to London via Oslo, accommodation with breakfast in Bergen, Tromsø and Longyearbyen, four nights aboard Hurtigruten and the Isfjord excursion in Spitsbergen. Departs daily until 30th September 2016.
