Exclusive: Inuit Immersion With PONANT EXPLORATIONS and SEDNA

PONANT EXPLORATIONS GROUP

Following the success of the first edition in Greenland in 2025, PONANT EXPLORATIONS and SEDNA are offering two new departures in the spring of 2027. These extraordinary voyages promise immersive encounters, exclusive experiences and meaningful exploration set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Arctic wilderness.

PONANT EXPLORATIONS and SEDNA invite guests to experience Greenland through the eyes of its local communities, immersing them in the everyday lives of villagers and hunters. From dog sledding and kayaking to ice fishing, ski touring with a pulka and overnight stays in traditional homes or bivouacs on the pack ice, each activity is conceived and led by Greenlanders themselves. As the journey unfolds genuine connections naturally emerge, creating deeply moving moments of exchange and shared emotion.

A partnership based on shared values

Respect for local populations, their way of life and their expectations of visitors, respect for the environment and controlled impact on the natural environment and wildlife: these are the founding values of the polar exploration cruises launched by PONANT EXPLORATIONS over 30 years ago. These values are also supported by the polar consultancy and expertise company SEDNA, named after the goddess of the sea in the mythology of the Inuit people. More than just a voyage, PONANT EXPLORATIONS and SEDNA are working together to create an authentic and meaningful exploration.

Nicolas Dubreuil, co-founder of SEDNA and member of The Explorers Club has been exploring the Arctic and the Antarctic on foot, sledge, skis, kayak and underwater for over 30 years. Nicolas works closely with his Inuit friends whose daily lives he shares for several weeks a year, to design tailor-made expeditions that pay tribute to the environment and inspiring characters of these far-flung lands.

"These meetings and activities are the initiative of the Greenlanders, who are fully involved in sharing their way of life. And I'm delighted to see guests so deeply affected. They challenged themselves and discovered the true spirit of this wonderful people, masters of adaptation. Qujanaq! Thank you!"

Exclusive activities co-constructed with Inuit communities

To help people discover their traditions, understand the challenges they face and share their daily lives, the inhabitants of the village of Kullorsuaq have worked with Nicolas Dubreuil and SEDNA to devise a series of exclusive experiences*. These include a night in a traditional Inuit tent on the sacred site of Nunanutaat, after a dogsled journey into the heart of the vast polar wilderness, punctuated by evenings spent listening to stories and legends passed down by Inuit hunters. Guests will also be able to spend a night in an expedition tent in a scientific camp set up on the pack ice, alongside researchers working on marine biology, glaciology and climatology. *Certain experiences are available by advance booking and at extra cost.

Exceptional itineraries in spring 2027, only aboard Le Commandant Charcot

Le Commandant Charcot, the world's only luxury icebreaker, is the only one in its class able to access the coasts of Greenland's High Arctic at this time of year, when pack ice and sea ice make them inaccessible to conventional ships. With a PC2 polar-class hull, hybrid electric and liquefied natural gas propulsion and an experienced crew trained in ice navigation, this remarkable technological marvel safely transports guests to the farthest reaches of the known world.
