The Mountain Company

Devon, UK: Roland Hunter, our Managing Director, is looking forward to travelling to Nepal in March 2022. He will be in Kathmandu to help organise the logistics for our Spring 2022 trekking season. He will meet clients and provide on-the-ground support until mid-May 2022. This is the key advantage of The Mountain Company being a specialist operator. We focus on travel to a small number of countries in the Himalayas and Karakoram mountain ranges. We are able to take the time to support our groups in the field by providing the highest level of service.

We have rewritten our Nepal Pre-Trip information document sent to our clients before departure. It now includes guidance on the latest immigration rules and paperwork required to enter Nepal. It also has lots of tips and advice to help preparations for their holiday. Having clear instructions and pre-trip advice takes the hassle out of travelling again!

Health and safety have always been of paramount importance when organising our trips. We have been in compliance with British Standard 8848 (BS8848) since 2014. For example, since the Nepal earthquake in 2015, we send satellite phones with our guides on all treks. For 2022 trips we have added an extra layer of Covid procedures to our BS8848 risk management framework. We used the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) Covid 19 Health and Safety Guidelines as a template.

Of course, there are still risks and uncertainties with international travel in 2022. However, having robust Covid procedures means we can reduce this to an acceptable level. If trekkers are prepared to take this risk they will experience quieter trails, campsites, and lodges. Plus they will have a very warm welcome from our trek crews and the locals you meet along the way.

We have some last-minute availability in Nepal as follows:

Everest High Passes (April 2nd to 24th 2022): 6 places available.

Dhaulagiri Circuit (April 17th to May 6th 2022): 3 places available.

Upper Dolpo to Jomsom GHT (May 7th to June 5th 2022): 4 places available.

The Mountain Company's Managing Director Roland Hunter commented;

“There is now the political will in most countries around the world to learn to live with Covid 19. Of course, there is still a risk of infection and this virus is still severely affecting many people. That said, the risk of dying from Covid is lower. This is due to vaccinations, immunity from the previous infection, and antiviral treatments. From a traveller's perspective, this means the risk of lockdowns and last-minute changes to immigration requirements is much lower than in 2021 & 2020.”

Trek on and see you in Kathmandu!
