EVA Air, Taiwan's leading independent airline, held its first half marathon event on October 28th 2018 in Taipei, Taiwan. The event saw almost 18,000 runners from 43 countries compete in half-marathon, 10km and 3km races in Taiwan's capital.

The half marathon race began at 5:30am at the Presidential Plaza, with EVA Air Chairman Steve Lin and Taipei City Mayor Wenzhe Ke, jointly firing the starter gun to kick-off the event. The route took runners past some of Taipei's most well-known sights, including the National Theater, DaXaio Gate and the Keelung River, as the sun rose over the city.

The half marathon race was certified by the AIMS (International Marathon & Long Distance Association) and IAAF (International Athletics Federation) certification, with nearly 6,000 runners participating. The 10km race saw more than 7,800 runners take to the course, while 4,000 took part in the 3km event.

EVA Air invited foreign tourism bureaus, domestic and city tourism units, as well as well-known travel agencies to set up booths around the finishing line at the Dajia Riverside Park, providing a variety of drinks and food for runners.

At the end of the running event, EVA Air also demonstrated the Royal Laurel Class seat of its new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, created by the Designworks of the BMW Group, offering runners and spectators the chance to see this brand-new product.

A 2019 half marathon event is in planning stages and will take place in Q4 next year, with the aim of creating an event that becomes a tourist event combining sports with sightseeing.
