Brandywine Museums and Gardens Alliance

Wilmington, DE Hagley Museum and Library welcomes everyday and luxury European vehicles at the annual Hagley Car Show on Sunday, September 14. 2008, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. These wheels will join more than 600 antique American cars, trucks, and motorcycles displayed on a general field.

This years special feature, European Vintage Wheels, will include vehicles from Britain, Italy, France, Germany, Sweden, and Ireland. Some vehicles exude luxury, like the Rolls Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes Benz. Porsche and Ferrari bring the high styling and performance of great sports cars. Others on display have special characteristics, such as the DeLorean, famous for its role in Back to the Future, or the BMW Isetta, known for its unique egg shape and entry door on the front of the vehicle.

Visitors can try video and pedal-powered go cart racing, watch vehicle parades, enjoy motoring music and festival food, and delight in walking around a room full of fabulous operating vintage jukeboxes. Hagley Director Geoff Halfpenny, who will be exhibiting his 1989 Jaguar convertible, says the day will be buzzing with energy and activity.

The event is sponsored, in part, by Delaware Cadillac-Saab-Subaru; Homsey Architects, Inc.; Lyons Company; and Nuclear Electric Insurance Ltd. Public parking will be at the Barley Mill Plaza with free, frequent shuttle bus transportation to the show. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $4 for children six to fourteen, and free for Hagley members and children five and under. The event will be held rain or shine.

Hagley Museum and Library is where the du Pont story begins. It was here that the gunpowder works of E. I. Du Pont created an empire in 1802, with a lasting legacy throughout the Brandywine region. Our scenic 235-acre campus stretches along the banks of the Brandywine River. See the first family residence, walk through the original mills of the DuPont Company, and listen to the stories about the people who lived and worked along the river.
