EUROPE REMAINS AT THE HEART OF SINGAPOREANS FOR 2014!

Singapore, January 2, 2013 –According to a recent survey by Trafalgar, where more than 3500 people were polled, Europe remains a large pull for Singaporeans to travel to in 2014. Switzerland came in top place, followed by Italy, Russia & Greece.


Trafalgar has also seen a 14% of increase in bookings for 2014, and it sets to look promising especially with the lure of its early bird incentive for potential travellers.
 ‘80% of Singaporeans want to take a guided holiday in 2014 which is remarkable. Increasingly, it shows that local travellers want to enjoy local authentic experiences, and Trafalgar’s insider positioning offer just that.’ said Nicholas Lim, President of Trafalgar (Asia). ‘Not only that, the results reveal that Singaporeans are also becoming more discerning when it comes to exotic locale, especially that Russia is the 3rd popular choice for travel. 60% of travellers are also most interested in cultural interactions and historical excursions, displaying that guests are looking to travel deeper into the destination, rather than seeing a country from a surface level.’


From the results, the UK has come back in a big way with 29% of Singaporeans choosing it as their Western European country of choice, with France in close competition. ‘Especially with the 100 year anniversary of the First World War, and the Commonwealth Games taking place in Scotland over the summer season next year, it’s never been a better time to visit that part of the world and be involved in all the festivities.’

USA is also predicted to be the next big push for 2014, with 54% of locals wanting to travel there in the coming year. Travellers can arrange their holidays that coincide with notable events such as the Mardi Gras Parade in New Orleans, or the Coachella Music Festival in California.

Singaporeans appetite for travel remains strong, with an amazing 47% travelling up to 3 times in a year, and the majority of them at 31% having a budget of $2500 per person for a holiday. Other travel trends for 2014 are:

1)      More Singaporeans are planning ahead with 32% planning at least 6 months in advance

2)      62% of Singaporeans chose sightseeing as the activity they enjoy most, compared to 12% who chose shopping.

3)      Singaporeans are becoming more discerning travellers, with 32% and 29% listing historical excursions and cultural interactions high on their list while on holiday.

4)      Although 41% only have maximum of 1 week for a holiday, 47% travel two to three times a year, with 62% at any given time so opportunity for leisure time is increasing among Singaporeans.

5)      Family still plays a big part, with 49% travelling with family members and 32% listing family time as their main reason for taking a holiday.
