Ethos Marketing is delighted to announce the addition of two new properties to its portfolio. MalaMala Game Reserve, widely acknowledged as the premier wildlife destination in Southern Africa and its sister property, Mount Anderson Reserve, the “roof of the highveld” and a unique family adventure destination.
What sets MalaMala apart?
- It's all about the wildlife!
This is “Untamed Africa” as it is meant to be thanks to five decades of dedicated commitment to conservation. MalaMala Game Reserve has set the benchmark for sustainable eco-tourism and its reputation for its legendary game experience around the world is testament to that. It is undoubtedly the best game viewing in South Africa with guests noting multiple sightings of the famed “Big 5” with time still to sit and watch a lilac breasted roller shimmer in the sun.
- Location! Location! Location!
The lowveld has the greatest diversity of animal species on the African continent and MalaMala, South Africa's largest private “Big 5” reserve, is right in the heart of it. The MalaMala Game Reserve enjoys an enviable position as it straddles the Sand River and lies strategically sandwiched between the Sabi Sand to the west and the famous Kruger National Park to the east. MalaMala shares a 12 mile unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park allowing game to roam freely in the region.
- Ultimate Exclusivity
MalaMala comprises a massive 33 000 acres of pristine wilderness explored exclusively by guests of the three MalaMala camps – your own slice of the African bush.
- History in the making
In 1962 MalaMala was the first private reserve in South Africa to choose eco-tourism over hunting. Since then more than 1 000 reserves have followed suit. In 2014 MalaMala again made history by becoming the first community owned game reserve in the region with a ground-breaking land claim agreement. The Rattray family will continue to manage the property with the same spirit of excellence that has been the hallmark of MalaMala for the past five decades.
- Simply sublime or lap of luxury
MalaMala offers the choice of three distinctly different safari camps. All three camps are set unassumingly on the banks of the Sand River. The distinct African style of the MalaMala Main Camp and Sable Camp offers all the comforts discerning guests might expect – making your stay both relaxing and unforgettable. At Rattray's on MalaMala step back into “Out of Africa” and experience the historical opulence of the outpost. Eight luxury khayas (the Zulu word for home) and a maximum of only four guests per safari vehicle makes Rattray's on MalaMala the ultimate luxury safari destination.
Mount Anderson Reserve – the roof of the highveld
Mount Anderson Reserve is a unique and exclusive mountain retreat set on 20 000 acres of dramatic landscape in the Mpumalanga escarpment, west of the Kruger National Park. It is an idyllic getaway for those seeking refuge from the rigors of everyday city life and offers the perfect opportunity to relax and unwind in one of South Africa's most exquisite and private nature reserves. The property is blessed with spectacular scenery and mesmerizing views while still offering access to rare and endangered wildlife and some of the most unique vegetation in the country. Mount Anderson is steeped in history and is the site of the largest gold nugget ever found in South Africa.
Proclaimed in 1990 as South Africa's first ever private water catchment reserve, Mount Anderson Reserve is also a classic conservation success story. Once overgrazed cattle and sheep country, it has been fully restored to its original ecological splendour. Today it protects not only the major river catchments that are the lifeblood of the Kruger National Park but also conserves unusual antelope such as eland and black wildebeest and charismatic predators including the brown hyena, leopard and aardwolf.
Golden Cottage, the reserve's luxury lodge, was painstakingly crafted from hand-hewn rose shale and features graceful rooms with tall ceilings and airy windows. Situated in a secluded valley, it overlooks crystalline trout ponds and while you might occasionally hear the bark of baboons from the cliff tops, the only disturbance to one's solitude is the sound of Africa's game approaching the streams to drink.
Mount Anderson Reserve is an idyllic retreat with a wide range of outdoor activities available in the company of a qualified guide and host. These include outstanding trout fishing, clay pigeon shooting and air rifle shooting, wildlife safaris on foot or in a 4-wheel drive vehicle, hiking trails ranging from gentle river-side ambles to a challenging hike and climb, horse riding on well schooled “boer perd” ponies and some of the most exhilarating and technically challenging mountain bike riding in South Africa. Treasure hunts and picnics are ideal for younger guests whilst relics of the gold mining era of the 1920's, ruins of the ancient Pedi tribes and San rock art will keep the inquisitive satisfied.
A trip to the Mount Anderson Reserve can easily be combined with MalaMala Game Reserve – including transfers via the Panoramic route – a unique wildlife and adventure offering.
