Get away from the cold British weather this winter and beyond with a stay at Sun Park in Lanzarote; a unique home-from-home community for active, independent couples, friends and singles over the age of 50.
Sun Park is a vibrant holiday village set in the beautiful coastal resort of Playa Blanca; featuring picturesque gardens, pools and 220 self-contained, great-value serviced apartments that are rented by guests who stay for a short break, retirement holiday or indefinite period.
Reinventing retirement
What's innovative about the resort is that it offers an alternative to traditional retirement thanks to its incredibly welcoming, sociable community. Guests play an active role in the daily activities of the village, whether it's manning their own bar, looking after their own gardens, leading yoga, art or Spanish classes or hosting a barbecue. This is all done by the community for the community, and everyone is welcome to participate as much or as little as they want.
Gill Summers, Co-Founder of Sun Park, says: “There are challenges that face the older generation and retirees in the UK and beyond - including social engagement, isolation and loneliness. Our number one goal with Sun Park has always been to provide a solution to these issues and enable over 50s to feel part of an established, safe, friendly community.”
Age UK statistics (published October 2016) reported that 41% of people aged 65 and over in the UK feel out of touch with the pace of modern life and 12% say that they feel cut off from society. It found that 3.5 million people aged 65+ and two million people aged 75+ live alone; while one million people aged 65+ said they never spent time with their family or friends.
Its study highlights the importance of addressing these issues, as it also reports that loneliness can increase your risk of premature death by up to a quarter, and that people with a high degree of loneliness are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer's than people with a low degree of loneliness.
More about the resort
Sun Park is a perfect option for independent travellers over the age of 50 who want to stay in their own self-contained, great-value serviced apartment as an alternative to a full-staff hotel, and be surrounded by friendly and helpful over 50s with similar needs and expectations.
