Spend a week in spring or autumn of 2014 painting the Algarve at its very best under the expert tuition of some of the art world’s leading tutors. Organised and operated by Alpha Painting Holidays, one of the UK’s foremost painting holiday companies, you will be based at the beautiful, traditional Quinta das Barradas country house, located just outside of historic Lagos in the Western Algarve.
 

Set in a peaceful valley with open views towards the coast and up to the Monchique Mountains, the Quinta das Barradas is an oasis of rural calm and serenity. Painters can enjoy five painting days with a break in the middle to relax and enjoy the many offerings of the local area.
 

Painting days will include time spent at the Quinta which was chosen due to the wealth of colourful inspiring subjects on site from traditional Portuguese architecture, to vibrant courtyards, orange and lemon groves, quaint doorways framed by beautiful climbing plants and even farm animals. Other days will include visits to the historic town and fishing port of Lagos with its tiled buildings, churches, squares as well as the multi-coloured fishing boats in the harbour. The old fort in the coastal town of Praia da Luz is also on the itinerary where enthusiast can also enjoy painting the panoramic coastal views as well as much, much more.  All of course accompanied by your expert tutor.
 

On the non-painting day excursions are planned to visit bustling Lagos for shopping and sightseeing followed by lunch at the 17th Century Boutique Hotel Vivenda Miranda. www.vivendamiranda.com/uk/home  Occupying a privileged location on the cliff tops above the pretty Porto de Mós beach, Vivenda Miranda is a hidden gem that enjoys stunning panoramic views of the coastline and sparkling Atlantic Ocean and is surrounded by lush Mediterranean gardens. Following a leisurely lunch, is a visit to the breathtaking rock formations, stacks, chimneys and grottos of the famed Ponta da Piedade, where painters can be inspired by the natural beauty of their surroundings before finally relaxing with drinks at a beachside bar at the Porto de Mós.
