Blenheim Palace

Create romantic memories this Valentine's Day in the beautiful surroundings of Blenheim with its fairy-tale Palace and its stunning parkland.

As well as admiring the grandeur of one of the UK's largest stately homes couples can also get outside and explore the 2,000 acre 'Capability' Brown designed parkland with views straight out of an Austen adaptation.

To make your trip extra memorable Blenheim Palace have picked their top 5 romantic suggestions to spend your day:

  • Visit the Temple of Diana, one of the most romantic spots in World Heritage Site, where Winston Churchill proposed to Clementine Hosier during a summer storm in 1908. This sheltered nook overlooks the Great Lake and is a perfect spot for taking pictures.
  • Head to the 'Finest View in England' to see the most picturesque backdrop. The town entrance to the Park, through Woodstock Gate, offers views of the Grand Bridge, Queen Pool, Column of Victory, High Park and of course the Palace.
  • Walk alongside the Lake down to the Grand Cascades. One of England's most magnificent manmade waterfalls, the Cascades, designed by 'Capability' Brown, provide a beautiful backdrop for a Valentine's kiss. The water flows into the Bladon Lakes and winds south-westwards under Bladon Bridge.
  • Wander down to the Boat House, situated next to the Great Lake. The Boat House was built in 1888 for the 8th Duke and Duchess and is a quiet and romantic spot. There is a beautiful quote engraved onto a plinth just next to it: 'So may thy craft glide gently on as years roll down the stream'.
  • Add the spirit of fun and whimsy to your romantic day at Blenheim Palace and visit the Marlborough Maze. The maze was created to celebrate the First Duke of Marlborough's military victories and features cannons, flags, banners and trumpets as part of its design. Head to the two wooden bridges for exciting views across parts of the world's second largest symbolic hedge maze.

Once couples have finished exploring, they can cosy up in The Stables Café for warming hot chocolates with marshmallows and a tasty menu using local produce. Treat each other to a gift in the Blenheim Palace shop and take home some Oxfordshire artisan produce to enjoy with dinner.
