The Austrian National Tourist Office and the Carinthian and Tirolean Tourist Boards unite UK travel professionals and media at the “Franz Klammer Wooden Spoon Reloaded” Golf Classic, with a little help from some well-known friends.
"Eagle" is a golf term used when a player scores 2-under par on any individual hole. What kinds of golfers make an eagle? Good ones and lucky ones. Even the best golfers on the planet go eagle-less in most rounds.
All the more impressive then that Britain's very own “Eddie the Eagle” paid a special visit to the “Franz Klammer Wooden Spoon Reloaded” Golf Classic on Monday 9th October 2017, organised by the Austrian National Tourist Office and the Carinthian and Tirolean Tourist Boards.
The much-anticipated return of the well-established tournament took place at the Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club, where there was plenty to celebrate. Eddie was joined by fellow British ski icons Graham Bell and Konrad Bartelski alongside winter sport legends Franz Klammer and Leonhard Stock to get the new season off to a flying start following last winter's 1.5% increase in overnights and 3.2% increase in arrivals from the UK – Austria's best winter result ever. The upcoming launch of EasyJet's connection from London Gatwick to Klagenfurt and the increase of the London Heathrow to Innsbruck flights with British Airways further swung the Austrians and Brits into good spirit.
Non-golfers were in for a treat with an exclusive lesson, accompanied by former British World Cup alpine ski racer and Ski Club of Great Britain ambassador Chemmy Alcott. And everyone scored with dinner and drinks to accompany the prize-giving ceremony, hosted by new Austrian National Tourist Office director Klaus Ehrenbrandtner. His prognosis for Austria's coming winter season: “Why fly like a hen when you can soar like an eagle?”
