Adults-only Andalusian bolt-hole DDG Retreat is marking a double celebration with a special early bird offer on September and October bookings. To commemorate their seventh birthday anniversary and a recent award win - Lux Magazine's Most Outstanding Luxury Escape Spain - the Retreat is offering 10% off for stays of two nights or more during September and October at any of their three luxury suites, booked before 1st August.
Perched in the hills above the pretty white village of Casares, this stunning gem - with its breath-taking views and exclusive hideaway setting - is the perfect idyll for couples wanting to enjoy a romantic short break (or honeymoon) away from it all. And, as the owners celebrate the Retreat's birthday and look back at their journey there, they say it was the spectacular setting and calming ambience that captured their own hearts when they first bought the property nearly twenty years ago.
Says owner Daria: “We had visited this part of Andalusia for holidays and set our hearts on buying a family home here. The first property we viewed was this one, not that there was much to see at that point but a run-down casita and swathes of barren scrubland. Nevertheless, gazing out at the panorama, it was love at first sight. What began as a personal project just for ourselves, painstakingly rebuilding the house, planting hundreds of trees and putting in pathways and gardens, eventually led us to a point where we felt this place was too special not to share with others.”
Soon, inspired by their own global travels, the concept of DDG Retreat was born. Daria continues: “Having visited more than 60 countries over the years and having been totally smitten with Asia, we wanted to create a unique experience for our guests offering the kind of stay we had only ever experienced previously in our favourite long haul destinations. From the overall design, to the interiors and the landscape gardening, and even to parts of the construction process, we built the Retreat inch by inch ourselves, taking time out to source original artefacts from around the world so that we could create a little slice of paradise with an exotic edge. Our vision was crystal clear but it was to be a labour of love, with the transformation from family home to boutique hotel being another five years in the making. “
At last, in 2011, DDG Retreat opened its doors to their first guests. There have been changes along the way as they have sought to continuously improve the guest experience, not least that they have recently reduced the number of casas to just three in response to guest feedback that what they valued most of all here was the sense of peace and quiet and the luxury of privacy – and the reaction has been phenomenal.
Now guests can choose from three casitas, which all come with their own private hot tub or plunge pool and offer generous outdoor space for sun bathing, an afternoon siesta, al fresco dining or for watching the beautiful sunsets there with a chilled drink in hand. Royal and Maharja are deluxe tented super-suites that come complete with stylish interiors, marble floors, chandeliers and air conditioning - Royal even has its own home cinema screen, whilst Maharja also has its own outdoor bath perfect for star gazing and a kitchen for preparing light meals. For guests who prefer a more traditional casa, Pino is an artisan cottage full of character and colour, with its own plunge pool. All casas have pre-stocked wine fridges, Nespresso machines and there's a choice of pillow menu. Guests have complimentary access to the shared infinity pool; tennis court' mini-gym, hammam and sauna and there is also a spa cabanah set amongst the trees where you can enjoy indulgent pampering treatments. Home cooked breakfasts (served with cava) are an optional extra and sharing platters – delivered to your door - are available for your choice of lunch or dinner.
With a maximum capacity of just three couples enjoying the four-hectare estate, there's no better place to enjoy an escape and the special Birthday Offer makes a stay even more of a treat! Offers are currently available on the Retreat website – but lead in price on an accommodation-only basis for a two night stay at Casa Pino in September or October booked before 1st August is 329 euros per person for two nights room-only based on two sharing (including 10% Birthday Treat discount).
