Sud de France brought the Languedoc-Roussillon Joie de Vivre from the south of France to the South Bank



Last Saturday the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France brought the joie de vivre of the south of France over to a leafy stretch of London's South Bank in style. Under a glorious, almost Mediterranean sunshine, the Sud de France Joie de Vivre festival saw some 40,000 Londoners discover more about the wonders of the southern French region of Languedoc-Roussillon.

Throughout the day locals sampled Languedoc-Roussillon wines with famous produce from this diverse region of the south of France including olives, tapenades, cheeses and even a giant cassoulet. Packed with food and wines galore, the festival also featured an Office du Tourisme where Londoners discovered more about Languedoc-Roussillon, with its 300 days of sunshine, rolling vineyards, sandy Mediterranean beaches and breathtaking countryside. Celebrated international best-selling author of the Languedoc Trilogy of novels (Labyrinth, Sepulchre and Citadel) Kate Mosse made an appearance in the afternoon signing copies of her books to delighted festival-goers.

Completing this Sud de France village atmosphere, Londoners were treated to a beach where a sand castle artist invited visitors to help build famous sites from the region, a wine school to learn more about the fantastic and innovative Languedoc-Roussillon wines and pétanque tournaments where teams competed to win hampers of Sud de France food and wine.

At dusk, BBC Radio DJ Gilles Peterson took to the stage to adoring crowds, bringing the sounds of his Worldwide Festival all the way from the Mediterranean beaches of Sète to the South Bank. A spectacular ending to a day full of Sud de France Joie de Vivre!
