Borrowdale Hotel Serves Downton Style Afternoon Tea 11 Dec 2013
Downton Style Afternoon Teas In Big Demand

Lake District Hotels

The latest series of Downton Abbey prompted staff at the Borrowdale Hotel to emulate the nostalgic era of privilege with their afternoon teas and it has proved a hit for fans of the Dowton Abbey series who are looking for a pre – Christmas fix of the style etiquette and nostalgia of the privileged era.

Since opening the doors and donning period costume to serve their  quintessentially ‘Downton’ Afternoon Tea, the Borrowale Hotel has seen a full house of bookings, with guests treated to tea  on an array of delicate china, and at all times, treated as Cumbria’s equivalent to the Earl of Grantham, Lady Crawley and Dowager Countesses.

Carefully researched by General Manager Stephen Wilcock, afternoon tea delights include a combination of ‘upstairs and downton stairs’ tea time treats: dainty smoked-salmon pin wheels, chocolate dipped éclairs and Lady Mary’s Madeleine’s, Carson’s Bread Pudding plus local favourites of the era - Borrowdale Tea Bread, and scones with Cumberland Rum Butter and clotted cream. And for tea – a selection of the finest speciality loose leaf teas.

Stephen Wilcock, General Manager of the Borrowdale hotel said “customer service is something we take great pride in and we’ve followed the intricacies of aristocratic etiquette throughout the series. Our guests will you be waited on hand and foot but we hope they don’t see much improvement on the standards we set ourselves all year round.”

Downton Style Afternoon tea is served Fridays and Saturdays throughout the Festive season and due to the demand, the hotel is now planning to extend into 2014.

£16.95 per person. Anyone wishing to book should contact the hotel on 017687 77224.
