Fans of Downton love afternoon tea in the Lakes.
Downton fever has hit the Lake District with a craving for Downton style afternoon teas being served at the Borrowdale Hotel. Full costume and period afternoon teas have been served since the start of the latest Downton Abbey series and are filling the gap for fans until the Christmas Day screening of the programme.
The period of nostalgia and privilege is being captured at the Borrowdale Hotel near Keswick in the Lake District.
Staff are stepping back in time, donning period costume and serving their quintessentially Downton Afternoon Tea to their guests on an array of delicate china. And at all times, they will be treated as Cumbria’s equivalent to the Earl of Grantham, Lady Crawley and Dowager Countesses.
Carefully researched by General Manager Stephen Wilcock, afternoon tea delights include a combination of ‘upstairs and downton stairs’ tea time treats: dainty smoked-salmon pin wheels, chocolate dipped éclairs and Lady Mary’s Madeleine’s, Carson’s Bread Pudding plus local favourites of the era - Borrowdale Tea Bread, and scones with Cumberland Rum Butter and clotted cream. And for tea – a selection of the finest speciality loose leaf teas.
Stephen Wilcock, General Manager of the Borrowdale hotel said "customer service is something we take great pride in and we've followed the intricacies of aristocratic etiquette throughout the series.
Our guests will you be waited on hand and foot but we hope they don't see much improvement on the standards we set ourselves all year round." Downton Style Afternoon tea is served Fridays and Saturdays throughout the Festive season from 15th November £16.95 per person.
