Potomac Bonsai Festival, 3-5 May 2013

The 2013 Potomac Bonsai Festival is the perfect opportunity for travellers to learn more about this special art form, Japanese culture and the Asian plant life and nature on offer at the U.S. National Arboretum. Around the World Embassy Tour, 4 May 2013

More than 40 embassies representing six continents across the capital will invite travellers to sample delicious fine cuisine, visit art galleries and discover performances by top dancers and musicians inside their stately mansions and exclusive buildings. On 11 May, a European Union Embassies’ Open House will also take place as the embassies of the 27 EU Member States will showcase authentic cultures, European films and masterpieces and dynamic dancers-  all complimented with fine European cuisine. These free events also run complimentary shuttle buses between embassies, allowing visitors to discover many cultures in a short space of time.

Urban Corps Transatlantic Hip-Hop Festival, 12-18 May 2013

Celebrate international urban culture at this exciting festival with free performances at venues across the capital including the Kennedy Center.

Discover a powerful combination of French culture and American Hip Hop channelled through urban dancers, mime artists, acrobats and DJs, as well as an array of uniquely urban speakers, film artists and street party performers from around the world.

National Asian Heritage Festival- Fiesta Asia Street Fair, 18 May 2013

DC’s Pennsylvania Avenue will be ablaze with festivities and colour for the Asia Heritage Foundation’s annual festival, featuring colourful outdoor craft exhibits, special performances, cooking and martial arts demonstrations, talent shows, flash mob dancing and much more.

DC Dragon Boat Festival, 18-19 May 2013

Now in its 12th year, the DC Dragon Boat Festival is an exhilarating two-day festival held along the Potomac River, featuring exciting boat racing competitions in extravagant Chinese Dragon boats, complete with a traditional ‘eye dotting ceremony’ to awaken the dragon. Discover cultural exhibitions, craft demonstrations, lion dance performances and the chance to learn more about Chinese culture.

International Children’s Festival, Date TBC.

A free interactive and educational international children’s festival will take place at DC’s Ronald Reagan Building and at the International Trade Center.
