TOURISM EXCELLENCE AWARD

New Mobile Visitor Center, LiLi, Recognized for Industry Excellence by New York State Travel Industry

LONDON, UK (October 4, 2019) – The New York State Travel Industry Association (NYSTIA) honoured Discover Long Island for its innovative mobile visitor center, LiLi, at the 2019 Tourism Excellence Awards on September 27 in Cayuga County. The creative new concept for the region allows Discover Long Island to directly connect with both travellers and locals, sharing destination information and driving awareness of the positive impacts of Long Island's visitor economy.

In October 2018, Discover Long Island converted an iconic ice cream truck to be a symbol of Long Island destination information. Named LiLi (standing for Long Island, Long Island and pronounced “Lily”), the truck shares inspiring destination content through social media channels, attends popular events where locals can collect information and photos, provides information on the positive impacts of Long Island tourism, and bolsters community pride through the sale of Discover Long Island's newly launched destination-driven merchandise.

LiLi continues to drive destination awareness throughout the region with attendance at upcoming events including the Oyster Festival in Oyster Bay and Suffolk County Marathon's Freedom Fest in Patchogue.
