Simply log onto www.discoverdevon.com for details of walks and walking events in Devon or call the Discover Devon Holiday Line on 0870 608 5531.

If time is limited why not try A Potter down the Otter, just one of the circular walks featured on the website, alternatively spend a little longer and explore part of the South West Coast Path, Britains longest National Trail, or head inland and discover quiet country lanes and riverside paths.

Fancy something a bit more energetic? Enjoy the sea air at the start and finish of Devons Coast to Coast walk, unlike the better-known walk in the north of England which runs west to east, Devon's goes from north to south. You can even dip your boots in the Bristol Channel and the English Channel in the one trip - they are a mere 117 miles apart!

South Devon offers secret hidden valleys, small woodlands, hundreds of miles of ancient hedgerows and National Nature Reserves teeming with flora and fauna to photograph or simply admire. Offering some of the best walking countryside in Britain, follow the quiet footpaths, bridleways and green lanes as you explore this truly magnificent county. Devon has a plethora of walks to suit all abilities; here are just a few to tempt you to visit:

- August 9: Children will have heaps of fun as they join shepherd and author David Kennard for a fascinating Farm Walk across beautiful farmland in Mortehoe, find out what really happens in the day of a typical Devon farmer.* - August 13: Get on the right track and test your fitness levels with a Dartmoor Ranger! This rare opportunity gives you the chance to walk over the demanding moorland terrain from Okehampton to Princetown. A certain level of fitness will be required, although you can relax in a mini-bus on your return journey.

- August 19: Devon has, over the centuries, been the inspiration to and home of many of Britains best-loved writers - Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling, Ted Hughes and Dame Agatha Christie to name a few. On Friday August 19, meet an Exmoor National Park guide for a ramble through the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, and over the hill to the Valley of the Rocks. Follow in the footsteps of writers such as Shelley, Blackmore and Williamson, as seen in the film Pandaemonium, hear how the relationship between Wordsworth & Coleridge developed on such a walk.**

For those wanting to find out more about these and other walks and events www.discoverdevon.com or the Discover Devon Holiday Line (0870 608 5531) provide an excellent starting point.
