A brand new tour for 2015 led by the founder and director of sKBL, the organisation for the preservation of Dutch castles, historic country houses and rural estates.
The rich Dutch architectural heritage of castles and country houses is little known even within the Netherlands. Many of these historic estates, often astonishingly well-preserved and surrounded by beautifully landscaped parks and gardens, were built during the Dutch Golden Age and illustrate an array of architectural styles. In 2015, ACE Cultural Tours is delighted to be working with the founder and director of sKBL, the organisation for the preservation of Dutch castles, historic country houses and rural estates, René Dessing, who uncovers this fascinating heritage on a brand new tour.
Dutch Country Houses & Gardens
August 10–17, 2015; £2395
Our tour takes you through doors not normally open to the public and provides insights into the architecture and historic inhabitants of these country estates. Highlights include the Huis de Manpad, whose present form dates from 1721 within grounds covering 19 hectares, the private 18th century Berg en Vaart, originally built for an Amsterdam wine merchant, and Nijenburg in Heiloo, an early 17th century hunting lodge surrounded by beautiful gardens and lakes.
