Point View Art Association presents 'Made in Macao' from 30th July - 25th August 2014 at this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe. A non-profit art and cultural association formed in Macau, the Far East destination famed for its vibrant cultural mix, Point View Art Association will present a series of three performances comprising different multimedia elements to create unique, sensory performances.
The 'Made in Macao' series features three performances:
'Playing Landscape' - which kicks off its latest version of the performance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Winner of the Midelact International Theatre Homage Award from the Presidency of Cape Verde in 2013 and part of the 2012 European Capital of Culture programming stream, this stunning non-text based multimedia performance combines theatre, dance and Chinese Ink Art by Beijing-based ink artist Cindy Ng all set against original music. Characters travel between real and imaginary landscapes exploring their dreams for the future and revealing their deepest desires.
'Picnic in the Cemetery' - which enjoys its European premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This is an instrumental cabaret for piano and strings under the artistic and musical direction of acclaimed musical director and composer Njo Kong Kie. This performance interweaves 'classical sensibilities with contemporary impulses' merging the old world with the new in a musical performance with incredible cinematic theatricality.
'Puzzle the Puzzle' - which has its UK premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Suitable for all ages, this performance is created by Macau based Taiwanese artist Hope Chiang and features a miniature theatre to challenge perspective and the imagination. 'Puzzle the Puzzle' is the story about a poet on a journey of discovery - dreaming and writing in the corner of a bookshop. It sees actors manipulate small toys, objects and reality to explore size, material possessions, relationships and a sense of self.
Each piece of performance merges different multimedia styles, the old with the new to create something unique and fresh to expand the audiences vision. Point View Art Association comes from Macau, a destination which has a rich and fascinating cultural tapestry reflected in its arts and culture as well as it's architecture and food. Macau's distinctive 450-year-old blend of cultures stems from the arrival of the Portuguese in the 16th century creating a unique east west mix unlike anywhere else in the world. This year, Macau celebrates 15 years of becoming a Special Administrative Region of China.
